365 Photos in 365 Days

I'm not a photographer, my camera is nothing special, and I'm not promising art, here. But the idea is to take one picture a day, every day, for a year. I hope to develop a better eye, get better at using my camera, and produce a day-by-day chronicle of 2010, my Year of Creating Dangerously.

My French Roast, as labeled by the (kinda hot) joker at Pablo's.
When I got home, I was like, Hey, that's not what I ordered! Oh wait...

Baby Doe and a buffalo: our heritage.
Colorado History Museum
Denver, CO
Addendum (10/21/10): By summer, this museum, a Civic Center fixture as far back as I can remember, had been torn down. They are building a new one a few blocks away, where presumably (hopefully) the buffalo will be reinstalled.

I didn't peel this grapefruit, and am in general opposed to the practice of littering, but I kind of appreciate the impulse to leave this on display on a bench in front of the library rather than hucking it in the trash. Can Litter be Art if it's intentional and interesting?

These girls are in our front yard. Hopefully I'll be able to get a prettier shot during the spring time.

My Indian Lunch
Chicken Tikka Masala, San Jose, CA

I ran around and took loads of photos of downtown San Jose -- churches, sculptures, random sweaters hanging in trees, etc. -- but this picture better captured the day for me, since I thought about Indian food at this place the whole way here from Tampa.

Self Portrait With Monster

A funny thing about being a renter is that you have this thing in your house. A funny thing about looking for something to photograph every day is that this thing gets your attention when you're lugging your groceries in.

This airplane, a 747-400, would eventually depart for Hong Kong. Without me.

Forty Minutes in Tucson

I liked the retro feel of this tower and the way that the winglet emphasizes the trapped-on-the-plane feeling we sometimes get, like in this example in January in a 65-degree town, knowing that Kansas City is waiting for us with its below-freezing temps.

Denver, CO

So there's this weird sculpture park over by the Target that everyone has driven by a million times, but no one has ever been to. Until today!

My goal for next week will be to post a horizontal photo. It was my goal for today, but...

Denver International Airport

Our fourteen year-old "ten year" contract became amendable today, January 7th. Negotiations are crawling along and the company has so far offered us nothing, and so flight attendants turned out at airports across the system to show management that we are prepared to do Whatever It Takes to win overdue and well-deserved improvements.

The first class galley coffee makers, which I spent most of the day either looking at or actually using. This was Lesson #1 for me about how your eye sees things differently when you are looking for things of which to take pictures (and you're locked in a metal tube all day).

Daybreak at a Busy Airport
Denver, CO

The airport actually was busy, which is why I thought it was kind of funny that all these gates were empty. We left for LAX 40 minutes later with not one empty seat.

Blurry is artsy, right?

Not that this is such an interesting photograph, but this is what my world looked like for most of the day, so here ya go.

January 1st

So, I'm interested to see how this evolves as the days click by, but here on Day One, my big problem is gonna be choosing which of the photos I took today to feature as The Photo of the Day. There will no doubt be days when I can't think of a thing to photograph -- hopefully on those days I might be able to return to San Diego, where subjects seem to abound.
